faith250 Perspectives: A Conversation with Lakota Sioux Leaders
America’s 250th anniversary is an opportunity for both celebration and honest reflection. Our country has given the world extraordinary gifts — new ideas about freedom, self-governance, democracy, and duty. But as Frederick Douglass once warned, any observance of this year that ignores the suffering our nation has caused to different groups of people is a “hollow mockery.” We truly love our country when we can face its past and present with clear eyes.
One of the hardest realities to confront is the relationship between the United States and the indigenous peoples of North America. The Lakota Sioux have one of the most important chapters of that story to tell.

You’ll hear perspectives that are rarely centered in our national celebrations — and come away with a deeper understanding of what it means to mark 250 years honestly, together. In this year of reflection, let us listen to voices that have too long gone unheard. Join us on February 24th.
